E-FLite PT-17 Stearman 44" Top Wing Span
Here are some mods I made after the crash rebuild.. I made a new motor mount and battery mount to allow the battery to slide in right under the back of the motor, it allows me to use almost 2oz. less to balance the airplane w/battery,
I put 1/2oz of weight in 7 of the cylinders and a 1/4oz. in 2 (left an right of the top cylinder) so 4oz. plus epoxy then I added 1-1/2oz. at bottom of cowling got it to balance at 3-1/4" or 82-83 mm just slightly nose heavy ... at 3-1/2" or 89mm back it balances about 1" nose heavy... and at 3-3/4" or 95mm back from l e about 1-1/2" nose heavy I used a CG machine but seems the same on finger tips.
The cowling weights 9oz. seems heavy so I made better cowling mounts.
The speed control is mounted on the bottom of the motor mount, and the top of the battery is exposed, hood scoops at top and bottom allow cooling for both. All up weight is 4.3 lbs. or 67oz. Pre-crash flights were great
with monster power 25 motor, 40 amp turnigy plush esc, and a 13x8.5 prop
Update... finally re flew the Stearman on 5-22-11 Brian was by my side to settle me down...... flew great the extra time and effort paid off also with the use of Marks incidence meter I got the top and bottom wing and the motor thrust right to spec !! *No trim was needed in the first couple flights*
